Sabatini praises Dybala: the only phenomenon left in Serie A

Walter Sabatini gave a lengthy interview to the Corriere della Sera, touching on various topics related to Italian football. Among the most significant statements was the one about the player who entertains him the most.

“Paulo Dybala, a residual champion of our league. In the nineties we had Ronaldo, Platini, Rummenigge. Now, from that lineage of phenomena, there is only Paulo in Serie A,” said the former executive. A clear assessment that highlights how, for Sabatini, Paulo Dybala represents the last great talent left in the Italian league.

On the subject of teams, the executive commented on the current state of Italian football: “I watch them all, I enjoy them with popcorn. In every match I find something: a play, the desperation of those with their backs against the wall, the euphoria given by the awareness of being the strongest.” Regarding the title race, Sabatini added: “In the Roma environment there is great euphoria. A spiritual cohesion that makes everyone feel unbeatable. But for the quality of the squad and depth of choices, Inter is a step above everyone else.”

Asked about the regrets of his career, he replied without hesitation: “Many. I was a shooting star, the inhabitants of Earth didn’t even see me pass by.” Finally, a quip about Cristian Chivu, whom he knows well: “He is a flexible pragmatist. He knows how to change his mind when needed. Consistency is a disease of man.”
