According to Beppe Bergomi, Inter struggles to make the leap in quality in high-level Champions League matches due to some gaps in the squad. The former Nerazzurri defender analyzed the team’s difficulties after the defeat against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
“My conviction about Inter is always the same: you can see that they are trying to take a step forward, to play a very risky style of football in Europe,” he explained to the microphones of Sky Sport. “Inter cannot sit deep like Real Madrid and then break quickly because they don’t have fast players up front. So they always have to take risks in the build-up, push many men beyond the ball line, and at the back they have to leave one-on-ones. And so it becomes difficult.”
Bergomi then pointed out the characteristics missing from the Nerazzurri squad: “In recent years the club has always tried to find a number 10 like Nico Paz. This summer they tried to get him, but then he went to Como, where he is doing very well. And I say that in a midfield where everyone is a number 10, you would also need a more structured player.”
“There are some pieces that, in my opinion, if added to this team could make it even stronger in Europe,” concluded the Uncle.
