Paolo Condò commented in the Corriere della Sera on the start of the Italian teams in the Champions League. According to the journalist, the outcome of this first round of European matches provides some interesting insights beyond the numerical results.
«Beyond the points, which in September have the right weight in individual assessments, in addition to Como’s great match, what remains memorable is the personality of Roma in a heated stadium and the very strange match dynamics of Inter at the Bernabeu, empty of practical results but full of segments of clear superiority, even if never in control,» said Condò.
The journalist then added a reflection on the other Italian teams: «Only Napoli did not think they could beat Arsenal, which is much stronger and for this very reason could not fail to find at least one goal against an opponent barricaded in their area from the first to the ninetieth minute.»
In Condò‘s analysis there is also room for some regret about Roma: «It’s a pity that Roma did not join the group of competitors who started with three points, because it would have immediately helped the standings (their schedule is the toughest) and because it would have added further adrenaline to Gasperini‘s start, who in the next round will host Mourinho.» The journalist concludes with a hope: «In the hope that the intermittent black and blue lights seen at the Bernabeu will show them the way.»
