The 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid stings, but Inter leaves the Bernabéu with the awareness of having held their own against the European champions. Lautaro Martinez, speaking to InterTV at the end of the match, analyzed the performance of Cristian Chivu‘s team in their season debut in the Champions League.
“We are very sorry because we played a game with personality and courage, we would have deserved more but this competition is made up of details, two mistakes and we lost the match,” said the Nerazzurri striker. The Inter team paid dearly for a couple of decisive lapses in concentration, which allowed the Blancos to take home all three points.
Martinez however highlighted the positive aspects of the night in Madrid: “You have to stay focused for 90 minutes, we showed our value from the start then we leave without any points in our pocket but with the awareness of our level, our strength, the team that we are. We need to try to reduce the mistakes.”
The striker’s gaze is already turned to the future and the upcoming commitments: “Every match is different and every game is important, now we have to recover mentally and physically, on Monday we will face a physical team that gave us trouble.” Inter will have to turn the page quickly and bounce back after this European setback.
