Inter is preparing to face two close challenges that could shape the season. Within four days, the Nerazzurri will face Napoli and Real Madrid, two opportunities to send a message: to inflict a psychological blow on Allegri‘s team, fresh off a home defeat against Como, and to get off to a good start in the Champions League to move closer to the top eight positions.
According to Corriere dello Sport, coming out of this crucial moment well would provide valuable energy and enthusiasm for the double seasonal campaign. For this reason, managing the squad’s energy will be crucial, and Chivu will have to make several decisions to reduce risks, considering the many variables at play.
The only unavailable player is Spence, who is completing individual training with the goal of being available for the match against Udinese on September 14. However, there is a group of players, particularly those returning from the World Cup, who need careful management: they need to regain match rhythm, but cannot be overloaded. As a result, between the match at San Siro and the one at Santiago Bernabeu, there could be several changes in the starting eleven.
Against Napoli, the attacking pair should once again be Lautaro Martinez and Esposito, making their third consecutive appearance together. The two guarantee reliability and mental solidity. Thuram, although still behind in terms of fitness, needs to play: against Real, he could be the one to partner with the Toro in attack.
Captain Lautaro will be among the Nerazzurri to play in both matches, along with Barella, Bastoni, and of course Martinez in goal. For Calhanoglu, rotation is also possible, with Zielinski providing sufficient guarantees. For the Pole, the match against Napoli has special significance and it would be surprising to see him start from the bench, whether as a midfielder or as a playmaker.
In midfield, Chivu can count on a wealth of options. Sucic had his chance against Monza, while for Jones his turn could come soon, perhaps in the away match against Real Madrid.
