Boban praises Fabregas and Como, but Inter remains the favorite

The president of Dinamo Zagreb, Zvonimir Boban, spoke about Italian football in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. The former midfielder gave a clear opinion on the tactical level of our league and outlined his personal ranking for the Scudetto.

According to Boban, Serie A is lagging behind the rest of Europe: “From the point of view of ideas, we are far from Europe and its speed. In Italy, football is not very offensive, increasingly physical and less enterprising. After Sacchi’s Milan, 90% of the winning teams had a four-man defense and two men on the wings, whereas in Serie A, modernized catenaccio is played, with three-man defenses. It’s up to the clubs to change direction, the Federation cannot impose it.”

The former footballer showed great appreciation for the work of Cesc Fabregas at Como: “I am a fan of the Como project and the way Fabregas is coaching the team. And then there’s Baturina, a boy who grew up at Dinamo Zagreb like me. If I evaluate how Como plays and how many times they have lost games they dominated, I say they can aim for the Scudetto or at least make life difficult for everyone.”

Despite his enthusiasm for the Lombard team, Boban acknowledged the superiority of Inter: “Of course, Inter is much further ahead and history matters: there will be moments when the strength of the shirt and tradition will weigh in. Behind the Nerazzurri, I see Juventus and Roma.”
