Inter has completed the signing of Djed Spence to strengthen the right flank, but the Englishman will not be available for the season opener. The player had to return to London to take care of some bureaucratic procedures related to his work visa, which must be countersigned by the British government.
On Saturday, in the first match of the league against Monza, the starter on the right wing will be Diouf. The Frenchman impressed during preseason and in the final weeks of last season, when Chivu moved him from midfield to the wing. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it is not a given that Spence will immediately secure a starting spot once the bureaucratic formalities are completed.
The versatility of the former Tottenham player is still an added value for the Nerazzurri. Spence has shown he can play on both flanks during the World Cup with England, in the Premier League, and during his Italian experience with Genoa. He can be used both on the right and on the left, although Dimarco reigns on the latter, offering the coach an alternative solution on the opposite side as well during the season.
The investment made by Inter suggests, however, that the main goal for Djed will be to earn the starting spot on the right and surpass the competition from Diouf, once the administrative issues currently preventing his use are resolved.
