The departure of Dumfries represents a significant loss for Inter. This is the opinion of Beppe Bergomi, who, during Calciomercato L’Originale, analyzed the Nerazzurri club’s choices regarding wing players in the transfer market.
According to the former captain, no player in Europe can boast the same physical characteristics as the Dutchman, who is able to combine power, ease in scoring, and providing assists. The club is not looking for a replacement with that kind of physicality, but has changed its profile.
“So they first tried to go for Palestra, then for Khalaili, profiles who are technically better and faster. Spence is the third fastest player in the Premier, he plays on the left for Tottenham, but he can also play on the right. He doesn’t have many goals or assists, but in a system like Inter’s, which scores more than anyone in Serie A, he too, or whoever plays in that position, can score more goals and provide more assists,” explained Bergomi.
The Nerazzurri management has therefore shifted towards quicker and more technically gifted players, a choice dictated by the awareness that Dumfries’ characteristics remain unique in the European landscape.
