The Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the dismissal of charges for Gianluca Rocchi, former referee selector who was under investigation for complicity in sports fraud. At the center of the investigation were the referee assignments in four matches, including Torino–Inter from last season.

The investigative hypothesis concerned alleged assignments influenced by the approval or disapproval of the Nerazzurri club. According to ANSA, the Prosecutor’s Office has also requested the dismissal of charges for the club Inter, which was recently added to the register of suspects under the law on the administrative responsibility of entities. In the allegations of sports fraud, now subject to a request for dismissal, the public prosecutors accused Rocchi of attempting to manipulate referee assignments in collaboration with unidentified members of the Milanese club.

After two years of investigation, the magistrates concluded that there were no illicit agreements regarding the assignments. The charge of sports fraud against the former selector therefore lapses. The matter related to the so-called “knocks” now falls under the jurisdiction of the court of Monza. The investigation documents will be forwarded to CONI and FIGC.
