The investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office into the refereeing issue is heading towards dismissal. Ivan Zazzaroni, director of the Corriere dello Sport, spoke on the newspaper’s podcast to comment on the case involving Gianluca Rocchi, the referee designator who has found himself at the center of an inquiry.

The journalist reconstructed the procedural situation: deputy prosecutor Ielo had requested dismissal, while prosecutor Ascione opposed it. A hearing is scheduled in Rome with the European Court on July 16. Zazzaroni expressed concern about the length of the investigation: leaving someone in this situation after three months is incomprehensible for a professional. According to the director, those investigating should decide whether to indict or dismiss, allowing the person involved to clarify their position.

The journalist stated that he had personally spoken with Rocchi, describing him as worn out by the situation. The designator is said to be aware of his own innocence and of not having favored anyone. Zazzaroni reiterated that he does not want to take the place of the judges, but asked that a definitive verdict be issued, allowing the person directly involved to defend himself or to have his lack of involvement in the facts recognized.

As for the reasons for the investigation, the director explained that the wiretaps had aroused suspicion, but without providing concrete evidence of illicit advantages. He recalled that Inter did not win anything that season, an element that disproves any favoritism. Zazzaroni also clarified his own position, rejecting accusations of partiality and claiming an approach based on facts and direct knowledge of the person involved.
