This Napoli-Inter match of the eighth round of Serie A continues to be full of controversy and twists. After the chaos that occurred in the 30th minute when a penalty was awarded to the Azzurri, there were further problems and a major misunderstanding among the fans of both teams over a yellow card.
In the 43rd minute, it actually seemed that referee Mariani booked Billy Gilmour for a sliding tackle, and both the commentators, the DAZN graphics, Google, and other news sources were convinced of it. The fans were therefore caught off guard when the referee showed another yellow card to Napoli’s playmaker in the 50th minute after an obvious foul on Dumfries.
As was later revealed, the first yellow card given by referee Mariani was actually for the Azzurri captain Di Lorenzo and not for Gilmour’s foul. The Scottish playmaker therefore only received one booking in the first half of this heated Napoli-Inter match.
