One of Inter’s major transfer targets in the last summer transfer window was undoubtedly Giovanni Leoni. The central defender from Parma broke out last Serie A season wearing the yellow and blue kit, thanks also to the work he did with Cristian Chivu in the second half of the championship.
Precisely because of this breakout at just 18 years old, Parma has always demanded very high figures to sell Leoni. The clubs that showed interest, such as Inter first and foremost – but also Milan and others – were always met with valuations above 30/35 million euros, and in the end it was Liverpool who secured him.
The English club is one of the richest in the world and was able to quickly convince Parma. CEO Federico Cherubini revealed today to the Corriere di Parma in an interview what the club’s plans were: “We wanted to keep him with us, we even had an offer from Newcastle for Leoni, but then a club like Liverpool changed everything.”
