On the last day of the transfer market, a shake-up hit the defense of Inter. Against all odds, just hours before the close of the summer session, the Nerazzurri club completed two major operations in the defensive department, one incoming and one outgoing.

Arriving is Manuel Akanji, the Swiss center-back who in recent years had often been close to a move to Inter. The now former Manchester City player was no longer part of Pep Guardiola‘s plans and had been on the market for weeks. When the opportunity arose, Chivu wanted to seize it because of his defensive qualities.

At the same time, Inter finalized the departure of Benjamin Pavard, who returns to France thanks to an agreement with Marseille. A transfer that had been in the air for several days, but surprised everyone due to the very short timing. Numerically, therefore, Akanji will fill the gap in defense left by the former Bayern Munich center-back.

Completing the defense, as reported in recent days here on Passione Inter, will finally be Tomas Palacios. The 2003-born defender decided to turn down a move that seemed set to Santos in order to continue fighting for his chances in the Nerazzurri shirt. Even in the final hours of the market, despite the offers received, the youngster gave absolute priority to Inter.

As gathered by our editorial staff, it was precisely Palacios‘ own desire to stay in Europe and especially with the Nerazzurri shirt on his back that proved decisive. Although Inter may still finalize outgoing deals after tonight’s deadline, a departure of the young defender seems unlikely, and he will have the chance to convince Chivu from now until next January.
