First half complicated for Inter against Udinese, in the 2nd matchday of the Serie A championship 2025/2026. Chivu’s men took the lead early on with Dumfries, who, however, then caused the penalty from which the equalizer came, before Udinese’s 2-1 goal.

The penalty episode itself became the center of a small controversy. The handball by the Inter defender, in fact, was sanctioned only after a VAR review by referee Marchetti. However, at the moment of communicating the decision to the whole stadium, the referee’s microphone audio did not work.

The reason? An issue related to a technical problem in the VAR room in Lissone, which should have transmitted the audio. The communication, however, does not seem to have been started and, therefore, Marchetti’s explanation was not broadcast in the stadium.

The communication of the referee’s decision after a VAR review is a novelty introduced by the AIA starting from this season.
