Official news regarding the VAR starting from this matchday of Serie A. Starting from yesterday’s matches, in fact, the referees are equipped with the “VAR Message”, a software that allows to send messages to the referee’s watch directly from the VOR room in Lissone.

The system is already equipped for Goal Line Technology alerts, to which new communications will now be added. The news is already in effect and, therefore, will also be the star of the Inter-Milan derby.

This is the announcement from the Serie A League:

The Serie A League announces that, in agreement with the FIGC and the AIA, following what was done in the testing phase during matchdays 33 and 34 of the Serie A Championship last season and the positive “live” use in the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa final last May 15th, starting from the 5th matchday of the Serie A Championship Enilive 24/25 and for all future Coppa Italia Frecciarossa and EA SPORTS FC Supercup matches, all match officials will be equipped with the so-called “VAR Message”, which will be integrated into the current operational workflow. This is the use of a software that allows to send instant messages from the VOR room (Video Operation Room) at the IBC in Lissone to the referee’s “Leikr” watch – currently already equipped for the GOAL/NO GOAL alerts of the GLT system – ensuring a communication channel always active with the VAR, even in case of malfunctioning of the audio vokkero system provided to the referees, which allows the audio connection between the appointed match officials at the different facilities and the VOR rooms in Lissone. From the VOR pre-defined messages can be sent (see the current “Go to RRA” or “VAR Review”) or ad hoc messages, so that, in case of a possible audio problem, every review can always be concluded with the utmost promptness and clarity in relation to all the cases where the IFAB provides for the intervention of the VAR. “Also in this season the Serie A League has continued to invest in technology to support the work of the match officials. This new system will make the communication between the Var room in Lissone and the referees on the field more effective. The implementation of the ‘Var Message’ on the referee’s watch confirms our desire to make the work of the referee class ever more effective and objective – said the CEO of the Serie A League, Luigi De Siervo -. In fact, to provide our fans with an increasingly transparent show, we were the first in the world to have introduced the GLT, the Var and the SAOT, implementations that have brought evident advantages in the refereeing of our matches making the Serie A a real reference model internationally”.
